All party meet on the land acquisition act: soon to reach a consensus
The land acquisition act was constantly under pressure ever since it was launched and most of the state governments have sought a relook at UPA’s Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. By early as the next fortnight, the Centre is going to convening an all-party meet to discuss all these issues and come to a general consensus.
A consensus at the meeting of all parties heading state governments will let the Centre amend the law in the current monsoon session itself. Arun Jaitley’s budget talked in length about the plan to execute major infrastructure projects through the public-private partnership (PPP) route. However in order to empower this PPP alliance, the revision of the land law is imperative for the Centre.
Land acquisition has come up as the single biggest hurdle for most of the new mega industrial projects and many proposed projects which were undertaken by the previous UPS government were stalled due to the same.
The Samajwadi Party government of Uttar Pradesh, AIADMK’s in Tamil Nadu, Trinamool Congress’ in West Bengal and BJD’s in Odisha will take part in the an all-party meet convened by the Government and relook on Land Acquisition Act. Most of the non-BJP, non-Congress state governments, are keen on getting the Act amended for various reasons.
Many states want complete autonomy on issues of land acquisition, and do not want centre’s interference in such matters. This is primarily because the law of the land is different in different, and only the state governments are aware of the situations and the local issues.
