Amaravati to be new AP capital

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Jul 02, 2014

A senior minister with highly placed government sources revealed that Andhra Pradesh’s new capital city will be built around the ancient town of Amaravati, a city imbued with historical significance.

Mangalagiri, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s earlier choice, proved to be too expensive. Amaravati has abundant land, in addition to numerous Buddhist relics, including an Ashokan stupa.

In keeping with the CM’s plan to develop a new city on either side of the Krishna River, preparations are underway to link a few mandals in Krishna and Guntur districts with a six to eight lane bridge between Achampet mandal in Guntur and Nandigama in Krishna district. Kanchikacherla in Krishna and Amravati in Guntur will also be connected. There are also plans between Gollapudi and Mangalagiri to improve connectivity between Vijaywada and the new capital.

The AP government currently has 6,000 acres of land in Tadikonda, where work on the capital will begin from. If necessary, private land may be acquired for construction.
