Amendment in the land acquisition bill on its way: Gadkari
The Modi Govt’s election agenda was based on improving infrastructure, real estate and manufacturing and removing bottlenecks for all the stuck projects. It was observed that about Rs 60,000 crore worth of projects are stalled due to the delays in land acquisition. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari is all set to make amendments in the Land Acquisition Act after consulting the states.
Gadkari, who is also in-charge of rural development, said in an interview that due to the disputes in the Supreme Court and High Court, the projects are stuck and within 20 days before the parliament session starts, the stakeholders will come to a conclusion. He also added that his ministry has already solved problems for the projects worth Rs 20,000 crore.
During the financial year (2014-15), under the BOT (build, own, operate) and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) models 7,000 km worth of road projects will be awarded.
The unfortunate part is that the previous ministry which had set a target of awarding 9,000 km of projects in 2013-14 could award less than 2,000 km projects by the end of the period. Gadkari feels that his ministry needs to find an equilibrium and restore the construction of the roads. The government wants to be careful about the rights of the farmers, land owners and contractors and provide justice to all.
