Announcement of Mahim as a bay put to a hold

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Jul 28, 2014

The state government in Maharashtra said that the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) controversial decision to declare the Mahim shore as a bay and the clearing of building proposals near the coast includes a prime 5.5 acre Prabhadevi plot.

The Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan put the brakes after the July 4th Times of India’s expose on how the authority has cleared the builder Hubtown’s Hindustan Mill plot near Prabhadevi for development purposes by removing the same from the coastal regulation zone (CRZ).

The state urban development department that was headed by Chavan and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation both strongly objected to the MCZMA’s “unilateral” decision. The unilateral division of MCZMA to redefine parts of Mumbai coastline as a bay would have very serious implications for the city’s town planning. The decision was very reckless as stated by the senior government official.

The decision of the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) to declare Mahim as a bay has been for now put to a hold by the state government. After the investigations the decision will be taken as in whether to give permission to the MCZMA to allow Mahim as a bay.
