The anti-competitive practices and the abuses of dominance top the list of complaints that have been filed by the consumers against the real estate players with the Competition Commission of India (CCI). As much as 150 cases have so far come to the fair trade regulator pertaining to the same as sources say.
While the competition with the lawyers say that practice is on the rise due to the rising consumer right awareness. Real estate personnel say that such cases develop mainly because of the consumer dissatisfaction. Most of the key real estate players that have been taken to the regulator are BPTP, DLF, Ansal, DDA, Eldeco, Jai Prakash Associates, Hiranadani, Supertech and Omaxe. In the last six months alone the CCI had dismissed more than 10 complaints against the real estate companies.
In many cases there have been orders against a Director-General probe. The ‘biased’ builder-buyer agreement had also topped the list of complaints, delay in execution and delivery came second in the list. A DLF official stated that most of the complaints come from the customer dissatisfaction and not cause of biased buyer-seller agreements.
