AP Government yet to relocate hazardous industries
Raising the concerns regarding safety of public health, the Andhra Pradesh government has not yet relocated the hazardous industries from Bholakpur in Musheerabad.
The AP State Human Rights Commission had directed the authorities to shift the industrial units, particularly those dealing in the animal skin business, plastic and scrap outside city limits after the May 2009 tragedy which saw 16 people dead due to consumption of contaminated water.
Though a high-level committee comprising of municipal officials, environmentalists and Pollution Control Board scientists had been formed, still the farmers have not yet been convinced to shift to outskirts of the city.
The government had already allocated 44 acres for the relocation of 600 hazardous units in Bholakpur to Rampally village. However, due to various obstacles these units continue to operate in the same areas as before.
