Apartments in Bangalore have covered Kundanhalli Lake Bund
Kundanhalli Lake is surrounded by multi-storied buildings and apartments in Bangalore. The Lake bund is completely covered by the concrete jungle.
According to the Supreme Court’s direction, it is illegal to construct any property within 30 meters from any lake bund.
This rule is being violated by the builders and developers in Bangalore as many buildings are constructed within five to 10 meters from the lake bund. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has also put up concrete poles for a transformer to supply power to newly constructed apartments nearby.
One apartment can be seen on the lake bund itself. According to the residents of the area, no authority inspects the place to prevent encroachment. Previously the forest department had arranged for fencing around the lake, but it is noticed that most of the fence is missing as some people have stolen parts of the fence.
It is an example of irresponsibility of the BBMP as several orders have already been given by the state government to take up the maintenance work for the lake.
