Apartments in Mumbai will be demolished for railway construction

Residential Apartments in MumbaiLand acquisition is happening for the construction of Churchgate-Virar elevated rail corridor. This acquisition is going to impact several middle classes, upper middle class households with apartments in the area.

According to the list of the plots of land that will have to acquire will impact close to 100 residential properties in Mumbai.

As of now no information is available about the number of households that will have to relocate following the demolition of these buildings. There is also no estimate of the slum dwellings that will be have to be razed.

The railways and the state government held a meeting in New Delhi to finalize the state support agreement for the project.

It was agreed at the meeting that the premium on commercial exploitation of land along the elevated corridor will be shared equally between the railways, the state government and the BMC.

The railways will be solely responsible for relocation of all utilities like phone cables and sewer lines as also the rehabilitation of project affected people.

The state government has agreed to shut down certain key roads leading to suburban stations for short durations during the course of construction of the corridor.
