Bangalore civic administration promises to make city garbage free

Comments(2) Sub Category:Bangalore,Municipality Posted On: Sep 03, 2012

Bangalore civic administration has promised to rid the city from thousands of tonnes of overflowing garbage. However, search for land to dump garbage is not yet over.

The residents around Mandur, about 45 km north of Bangalore, have agreed to resumption of dumping of garbage in the area on the fulfillment of certain conditions. The conditions include compensation for crop loss because of water pollution from the dumped garbage, supply of clean drinking water by the Bangalore civic agency through tankers, measures to check the stink from the accumulated garbage.

But with Bangalore generating around 5,000 tonnes of garbage daily, there is little space left in the Mandur landfill area to receive it. The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board  (KSPCB) has ordered closure of one landfill at Mavallipura, the biggest of the three landfills spread over 48 acres, which is bound to create hurdles on way to make the city garbage free.
