Banks to set up branches in the rural areas of W.B
The West Bengal Government is looking to help banks set up branches in unbanked areas of the State. The Mamta Banerjee led government always had claimed that they are in favour of development of the rural areas in the state.
The West Bengal Finance, Commerce & Industries and IT Minister, Amit Mitra, stated that the government will provide around 300-400 square feet of space at the various gram panchayat offices at a minimal rate of Re 1 per month.
Currently, there are 742 gram panchayats in the State which do not have any bank branches. This is detrimental for the growth of the village as the villagers have to depend on the loan sharks for all their financial needs and often spend their entire life in a debt laden condition.
Meanwhile, the Mamata Banerjee-led Government is also planning to create an integrated financial management system for monitoring the expenses and receipts of the State. Mitra mentioned that a national-level IT company will implement the integrated financial management system. It is most likely to be operational within the next three months. The move is likely to bring in greater transparency in government working and provide more ease to the citizens and villagers.
