Basements can be sold off without ground floor
In a landmark judgment that is bound to bring relief to property owners, the Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that basements of residential houses could now be sold and registered separately in Haryana. Until now, basements could only be sold and registered along with the ground floor. A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice R M Lodha, delivered the verdict.
The judgment will bring relief to over 9,000 basement owners in Gurgaon, who so far used to sell them with power of attorney. This reduced the saleability and prices of basements. The court judgment is pro-people and restores the right of thousands of property owners said Nivedita Sharma, the petitioner and lawyer.
This decision that has been taken by the court will help the house owners to sell their basements to people freely. Earlier this problem seemed to be causing a hindrance in selling the basements, however now this no more remains as an issue. Hopefully the government and the authorities will ensure that there is a free movement regarding any kind of selling of basements.
