BBMP all set to collect tax from domestic properties
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is thinking of a new game plan to collect more property tax. After a detailed study of commercial properties now the civic body is focusing on domestic properties.
A senior official, said that BBMP was planning to use the khata and electoral details to collect more property tax. Many domestic tax payers have rented out their premises under the Self-Assessment Scheme to pay less tax to the BBMP.
As per the proposal, the data from the electoral rolls will be superimposed with that of the khata and other property records available with the BBMP. After that they can easily examine the details and can easily detect whether the premises has been rented out. If the residential premises has not been rented out, it should reflect in the electoral rolls.
BBMP can issue notices to the property defaulters, once such properties are detected. Since the number of defaulters have not been detected, so it is difficult to give an estimation of how much revenue the BBMP hoped to garner through this method.
The BBMP had devised another plan to get more tax from commercial properties. The commercial properties that have come up over the past few years would have to pay tax. The Khata details, the built up area and the sanctioned building plan would be compared as most of the commercial properties have given wrong information about the built up area. So they will check and calculate the variations and issue notice to the commercial property owners.
