BBMP asks hotels, malls, offices to segregate waste from Oct 1
Like residents of Bangalore, the hotels, malls, offices, convention halls and educational institutions have also been asked to start waste segregation from Oct. 1 by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP).
They have been asked not only segregate waste into dry and wet but also to compost wet waste within their premises or pay to hand it over to BBMP, in case of a space crunch inside premises.
BBMP has sent a public notice to bulk generators regarding the mandate. The bulk generators include hotels, restaurants, choultries, malls, shopping complexes, marriage halls, convention halls, temples, residential apartments (10 units and above), public offices, railway stations and bus stands which generate 100kg or more waste per day.
The civic authority has warned bulk generators, shopkeepers and hawkers not to dump waste on the street or public spaces or vacant sites, saying that they will be fined for violating measures to control waste dumped at landfills.
