BBMP claims partial success of waste segregation plan
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has claimed that its garbage segregation strategy has met with ‘partial success’ and that there has been a huge demand for wet waste.
As reports of segregation failing in many parts of the city appeared in the media, the civic body has put forward the example of Yelahanka zone – where the segregation programme, it claims, has met with success.
BBMP says that the drive has been successful in 11 Yelahanka wards, residents being complying with the new rules in these areas.
The BBMP?said even legislators and its own corporators were asking for consignments of wet waste in order to convert it to manure.
The Yelahanka legislator has asked for 100 tonnes of wet waste, for the purpose of turning wet waste into manure. A local corporator from the Yelahanka zone also ordered 25 truckloads of wet waste for composting.
