BBMP criticised over waste management
The Karnataka High Court lashed out at the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) upon hearing two public interest litigations.
The High Court criticised BBMP for the piling up of garbage in the city and directed the civic agency to file a status report on garbage segregation on November 6, 2012.
The court expressed displeasure over BBMP’s lethargy in identifying the landfill site and its handling of tendering process, saying that the tender process was of short duration and it violated the Transparency Act.
Later BBMP commissioner arrived at court and declared that nearly 35 per cent of the Bangalore population was segregating waste and the percentage would soon reach 60 per cent.
