The decision was taken on Tuesday during a meeting chaired by Major Works Standing Committee Chairman H Ravindra. The meeting was attended by the local corporator, BBMP engineers of major works, and other senior Palike officials.

The owners of 44 houses required for the project are insisting for compensation at Rs 3,000 per square foot but BBMP had initially agreed to pay Rs 1,500 per sq ft. Finally on Tuesday during a meeting chaired by Major Works Standing Committee Chairman H Ravindra, BBMP agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 2,550 per sq ft to the property losers.

The project, estimated at Rs 28.72 crore, had begun in March 2008, with a deadline of 10 months. However, due to delay in land acquisition by the BBMP, the project was stalled for nearly an year. The underpass is expected to be 356 meters long and 16.5 meters wide.
