BBMP Sends Notices to Tax Defaulters to Clear Pending Dues by December
A team of BBMP corporators were on an inspection drive that identified the Bagmane Tech Park as one of the buildings whose property taxes were pending. Bagmane Tech Park Pvt Ltd paid a total tax of Rs.11.46 crore on Tuesday which was due since the last financial year.
Bagmane Tech Park Pvt Ltd is located near CV Raman Nagar in New Thippasandra ward. Its property tax which was due since the last financial year amounted to Rs. 11.46 crore and was handed over in the form of three cheques by officials from the software park to the Mayor, Shanthakumari and a team of BBMP corporators. They were all on an inspection drive collecting pending dues from high-value tax defaulters around the city.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike or BBMP is run by a city council and run by elected representatives from each ward.
Reasons Cited:
The mayor, Shanthakumari gave reasons for the tech park’s inability to pay taxes in the previous financial year stating that the BBMP zone last year was faced with confusion and the software park was not sure which zone it belonged to.
Deadline set to clear pending tax dues:
The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance added that the civic body has set a deadline of December 15th which was to be applicable on all high value tax defaulters. If these bodies failed to clear their dues in the said time, necessary action would be initiated for the collection of the due taxes.
Tax defaulters:
An estimate provided by the BBMP reveals that around 30 companies in Bengaluru fall under the category of tax defaulters. The net amount worth of taxes due, to be collected from these bodies add up to more than Rs. 93.12 crore. Each of the defaulters must pay more than 1 crore. The BBMP has issued a notice to each of these defaulters.
Among these, the Mahadevapura zone is said to top the list of companies in whose jurisdiction taxes worth Rs. 71.64 crore is due. Small and big industrial units, hospitals, educational institutions and commercial buildings such as malls fall under the category of the defaulters in the Mahadevapura Zone.
