BBMP to act against Ramky Group
Ramky Group came under fire from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). BBMP Mayor Venkatesh Murthy has committed to initiate criminal action against the Ramky group for serious violations of contractual obligations.
The violations include non-compliance with various environmental and social standards and for contaminating soil and water in Mavallipura and surrounding villages.
The mayor conceded that prolonged contamination has devastated the environment of the region to such an extent that the water has turned toxic. The decision came after a meeting with various corporators, legislators, officials and panchayat members of affected villagers.
The mayor also ruminated about compensating villagers suffering from various chronic illnesses caused by the pollution and to families of eight people who have lost their lives already.
