BBMP to withdraw garbage cess
The BBMP has finally decided to withdraw the three percent garbage cess on the property tax collected from bulk generators in the Palike council meeting.
The cess had become a argument between the bulk generators and the civic agency. The high court questioned Palike about the logic behind imposing garbage cess when the bulk generators have been asked to segregate and dispose their garbage.
Siddaiah, BBMP Commissioner said that they have imposed the garbage cess but now they feel that there is no use of imposing the garbage cess and are going to withdraw the cess.
The garbage cess on property tax had re-introduced by the BBMP on April 1, 2011. Separate slabs for the cess have been set for residential users, commercial enterprises, industries, hotels, kalyana mantaps and nursing homes when it re-introduced in 2011. The rates had been fixed as per section 103 (B) of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act.
