BDA floats tenders after felling trees, residents allege
Residents of Koramangala say that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) manipulated tenders to favour contractors and floated tenders to move trees after they were already moved.
Between May 26 and 27, the BDA cut over 34 trees along Sarjapur Road for the signal-free corridor extending from Sirsi Circle to Agara Junction and passing through Koramangala, despite a stay order from the high court..
On May 27th, residents of Koramangala protested against the BDA’s sustained efforts to start work on the project despite the stay order from the high court.
A file noting with the conservator of forests, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), shows that the BDA had not at all issued work orders for cutting trees. After the trees were cut, the BBMP suspended permission on violation of conditions of approval.
Residents alleged that the tenders were presumably manipulated and awarded to the person who cut the trees, whereas trees were removed long before the tenders were awarded.
