BDA loses Arkavathy Layout land to BEML housing society
Distracted with legal battles, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has lost 108.94 acres out of its 2,750 acres to Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML)?Employees’ House Building Co-operative Society (HBCS) at several villages in north Bangalore.
The land was taken for formation of Arkavathy Layout. Now, the civic body has laid claim to 1,200 acres, albeit with great difficulty.
BEML had illegally acquired land through three methods, according to sources.
BEML?HBCS?directors managed to get khatas transferred to their individual names in some cases, and in other cases, the Khata was never transferred but payments were made to the farmers and land was acquired for the formation of the HBCS layout, officials alleged.
In the third case, BEML acquired agricultural land for housing purposes, which is in violation of Sections 79 (a) and (b) of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, 1961.
Sources in the BDA claim Assistant Commissioner of the Revenue department has filed a case against BEML BDSC.
