BDA remains speechless on the matter of illegal buildings
Even as the BrihanMumbai Municipal has stood strongly against the residents of the Campa Cola Compound, there were a total of 4000 buildings which continued to stay tall and erect despite being given several orders of demolition. The Comptroller and Auditor General has mentioned in its latest report of Monday that there were a total of 5, 687 buildings in the city that were issued for demolition between the years 1988 and 2012.
The surprising part here is that there were around 4,025 buildings which still hasn’t been demolished by the Bhuwaneshwar Development Authority even though the order had been issued five years ago. Around 84 buildings were not bulldozed by the BDA between the years of 2001 and 2011. This vital piece of information was given away by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
There was failure incurred by the Bhuwaneshwar Development Authority and the Cuttack Development Authority to remove the encroachers from the government land. It definitely does cost quite a lot of money. Not just slum dwellers but also builders have encroached on land located between their own plots and roads. This was pointed out by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
