The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has planned to install a biometric system in order to make flawless issue of permanent khatas (property ownership documents) and to eliminate corruption in property transactions, including doctoring of khatas.

This move will safeguard the genuine property owners’ interests. The fingerprints will be matched in order to authenticate the ownership.

In order to provide no room for doctoring of khatas by officials, the fingerprints of the Assistant Revenue Officers (ARO) will also be taken.

The biometric system of khata issual is included in the recent BBMP budget of 2012-13. The system will be executed in all 28 ARO offices from this financial year. Each ARO will be given a biometric system, estimated to cost Rs 37,000 for taking the fingerprints of the citizens.

BBMP officials confirmed that the test run has also been done and the project is about to get launched.
