BJP demands ‘illegal’ construction be demolished

1 Comment Sub Category:Court,Delhi-NCR,Municipality Posted On: Jul 24, 2012

Majority of the BJP has demanded the demolition of an ‘illegal’ structure at Subhash Park in the House meeting of the North Corporation on Monday.

The structure was built by MLA Shoaib Iqbal at Subhash Park, claiming that the site belongs to the 17th century Akbarabadi mosque.

The demand came after a report from Commissioner P K Gupta says, despite urging Iqbal not to continue construction works at the site, he with other locals encroached up on the corporation land and started the restoration work.

The encroachment at the site and illegal construction carried out on the site will have to be handed over to the ASI, said Gupta.

Standing Committee chairman Yogender Chandolia asked the Commissioner to place the facts before the court and get the illegal structure removed.

Mayor Meera Aggarwal said all stakeholders have agreed to wait for court decision, whose hearing is due on Wednesday.
