BJP to fast track highway projects in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh

No Comments Sub Category:Infrastructure,Realty News Posted On: Jun 05, 2014

The newly sworn in Government’s main agenda is to improve the infrastructure of the nation and in order to achieve that they have started taking steps to remove the obstacles to investments in large projects across states.

To start with they have chosen four stalled national highway projects in Rajasthan and five in Madhya Pradesh and have started to revive these projects so that they reach their easy completion soon. The BJP-ruled Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments feel that during the UPA regime, they were neglected and no one had paid heed to the bottle necked infrastructure projects in their respective states. Rao Inderjit Singh will submit a proposal to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi after gauging the progress of the stuck highway projects in these two states.

Unfortunately the GMR group has announced their exit from a project of building a 555-km-long stretch on national highway 8 (NH 8) between Kishangarh–Udaipur and Ahmedabad. This project started in Rajasthan required an investment of Rs 7,700 crore. The reason cited by GMR is that the approvals are not coming their way. However the centre’s speculation is that the company was facing shortage of funds and hence wanted to back out.

In a similar fashion the GVK group had pulled out of the Shivpuri–Dewas expressway project in Madhya Pradesh. The project had come to a standstill after that and is being looked into by NaMo who is also the chairman of planning commission.

They also discussed about the Delhi–Jaipur 225 km expressway megaproject on NH 8 which has affected the tourist inflow adversely in the state of Rajasthan. The officials mentioned that in all these projects the implementation was stuck because of pending regulatory clearances, especially from the environment and forest departments. They are looking into providing these mega projects with central assistance and clearances from the planning commission.
