BMC put in charge for maintaining Expressways
The Maharashtra government has transferred the responsibility to maintain the Eastern and Western Express Highways from the state public works department (PWD) to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The decision is considered vital as there has been a piling up of complaints against the current custodian of the two thoroughfare, which are the city’s north-south arteries.
There has been complaints against the authorities that despite experiencing heavy traffic, when potholes and craters surface on the roads, repairs are not done quickly.
The BMC is one of many civic agencies in charge of maintaining the city’s roads including the PWD, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Mumbai Port Trust and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.
