BMC reclaims Lagoon Road

Comments(2) Sub Category:Mumbai,Municipality Posted On: Aug 14, 2012

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been able to reclaim the Lagoon Road after 30 years.

In a major demolition drive, officials of P-north ward office have razed over 100 illegal shanties, 30 commercial structures and at least 12 illegal garages to clear Lagoon Road in Malwani area in Malad (West).

Encroachment has been rampant in the area for last 30 years. The civic action followed several complaints against the encroachments on Lagoon Road. While the prescribed road line of Lagoon Road is 120 feet, its width has been limited to 40-60 feet, owing to the encroachments.

Apart from the illegal structures, the spot was being used to dump furniture garbage, scrap, household waste, building construction material etc.
