BMC to check garbage collection using GPS

No Comments Sub Category:Mumbai,Municipality Posted On: Oct 09, 2012

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will undertake a pilot project of the newly adapted technology of geo-tagging all the garbage collection points in the city.

The geo-tagging will help the BMC keep a close check on the garbage collection process. The tracking would be done with the help of GPS devices fitted in the garbage collection points. The pilot project will be undertaken in Dadar and Goregaon. After that, the civic body plans to extend to all the other wards.

The automation in the solid waste management (SWM) has been done on the lines of the pothole-tracking system. The new system would encourage citizens to care about the garbage situation of the city as citizens would be allowed to click pictures of uncollected garbage and upload them online.
