BMC to go for cloud seeding next month
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to go ahead with the seeding of clouds in the catchment areas of Bhatsa and Vaitarna lakes in September. It also extended the 10 per cent water cut further till September 15.
The officials stated that seeding will be carried for 12-15 days in September, on the basis of availability of clouds. The seeding will be carried out by aircraft, with the aide from an Israeli company.
In 2009, similar attempts by the civic body to seed clouds over Tansa and Modak Sagar lakes had failed miserably. Keeping in mind the earlier failure, the civic body has decided that data of actual rainfall occurring after the cloud seeding will be obtained to analyse its impact.
