BMC to introduce modified water billing software
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in response to the criticisms of its water billing system, is planning to make considerable changes in it to make the billing process for metered water connections and to make it a consumer-friendly process.
The civic body has roped in engineers from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, as advisors and as per the sources, the project is already underway.
While tests are underway, it will take over a year for the upgraded software to be introduced. The key feature that would be added to the software is spot billing. This will enable the water supply department to immediately issue bills after taking meter readings.
Also, at present the BMC does not have a proper redress cell. According to BMC officials, after the software is developed, people will be able to register complaints online.
