BMC to recover huge charges from builders
While making his position clear on tackling the alleged nexus between the BMC officials and construction lobbies, the Maharashtra Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan admitted that development charges of Rs. 102 crore is yet to be recovered from the developers.
It is to be noted that the usual procedure is that BMC recovers this charge from developers in return for providing basic infrastructure and then issues an occupation certificate (OC). All developers need to get their building plans approved by BMC, which also issues a certificate to commence construction without obtaining which flats cannot be legally handed to customers.
The CM stated that the civic body was yet to recover the development charges from developers because their projects were delayed due to various reasons and that the sum that is yet to recover is not as high as 655 crore as being alleged.
