BMC to rope in big firms to repair roads
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to rope in bigger, reputable firms to build roads in the city rather than small-time contractors.
The civic body which had tried to bring in bigger contractors previous year but to no avail, has increased tender amounts this year. BMC has come up with three contracts worth Rs. 150 crore, Rs. 143 crore and Rs. 92 crore to lure the big contractors.
The tenders are to rebuild 73 roads in the western suburbs. To secure better, long-lasting roads in the future, BMC has decided not to allow contractors to get into joint ventures and has set conditions that can be fulfilled only by big firms.
