Builders violate Norms and Home Buyers have to Suffer

No Comments Sub Category:Legal,Realty News Posted On: Aug 03, 2011

We all know that builders do violate a few big and small Floor Space Index (FSI) norms. But due this, home buyers have to suffer. Similar situation happened when there was a CID inquiry being conducted into alleged violations of FSI norms in the apartments on Palm Beach Road, Mumbai.

Some residents seem to know that irregularities are committed to some extent and the underlying nervousness is palpable. The owner of an apartment at Sanpada said, “For builder’s mistake, you cannot demolish our homes, as we have legally bought the properties. The chief minister should look into bigger scams such as 2G and Adarsh.”

“I am a retired government officer and put in all my life’s earning to buy an apartment in Sanpada. I am naturally concerned about the ongoing CID inquiry into my building. Looking at the revelations, I do feel that the builder had violated various rules to eat into open space,” said an owner of a flat at Sanpada. “However, I cannot be held responsible for that.”

Clueless as to how to check if their buildings were illegal, they hope that they would not be affected, as they were not to blame but the developers and state officials.

When TOI visited Shagoofa Tower at Sector 58A in Nerul, the guard initially barred him from entering the premises and talking to residents. Only after a word from the manager of the housing society was he allowed to go in. Later, the manager told TOI: “We have not broken any rule. But, you cannot talk to any people here as they may feel disturbed by your queries.”None of the residents was willing to be photographed as their residences have suddenly come under the spotlight, them being discussed during the zero hour at the state assembly.
