Building collapses in Bangalore – Contractor dead, three children rescued
A three-storeyed building which was under-construction collapsed at M K Layout in Garudacharpalya 4th Main Road on Wednesday morning.
A contractor, Mohan Nayar, was buried alive in the disaster while three children, who were playing in the basement area, luckily escaped. It is suspected that some more persons may have been trapped under the debris.
The incident occurred around 11.50 am, when around 30 workers were engaged in putting roof slab on the third floor and the children were playing at the ground floor.
According to the police, Manjunath Nayak was constructing the building from past five months. The construction is said to be illegal as he is not the Khata holder though he managed to get approval for the building plan.
Meanwhile, the BBMP officials suspected that poor foundation of the building and substandard materials used in the construction led to the tragedy. They have decided to demolish the building completely.
