Building regularization move puts violators to trouble
Chennai- The monitoring committee of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) appointed by the Madras High Court has sought more clarity and judicial sanction from the state government before regularizing buildings that came up before July 1, 2007
A new set of guidelines was announced by the government early this month, under Section 113-C of the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971, following which came the decision of excluding unauthorized buildings from regulations.
The new guidelines suggested to cover buildings developed on or before July 1, 2007.
Thousands of applications for building regularization continue to pile up at CMDA office. Agencies like Chennai Corporation, CMDA, the directorate of town and country planning and municipalities have started to regularize unauthorized buildings for a fee, said a CMDA official. He added that the illegal constructions have to stop all the moves till the court provides sanction order.
