Butterfly park in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu government has proposed to set up a butterfly park in Srirangam at a cost of over eight crore rupees.
The forest minister of the state has announced that “a special scheme has been drawn for establishing a butterfly park in 10 hectare area in Upper Anaicut Reserve Forest near Srirangam.”
The government is making an effort to prevent man-animal conflict. In the process Rs 10 crore have been allocated for the year to take-up works including anti-poaching measures.
The government is also planning to restrict over 1.41 lakh hectare Sathyeighmangalam Wildlife sanctuary for tiger reserve. Once implemented it will be the fourth tiger reserve sanctuary in the state.
The government also plans to bring a legislation to prevent trees in government’s land being felled. In the event of a tree being cut, it would have to be compensated by planting 10 saplings.
