Cabinet allows Bangalore metro to avail more funds
The cabinet permitted the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to avail Rs. 1,378 crore for Phase-1 of the Metro Rail project from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The cabinet also approved BMRCL to enter various agreements with the ADB and the state government.
Namma Metro Phase I comprises of two corridors. The north-south corridor covers Hesaraghatta to Puttenahalli, a distance of 24.2km. The east-west corridor connects Byappanahalli to Mysore Road covering 18.1km. The total cost of both corridors is Rs 11,609 crore. BMRCL is expected to pay the loan in seven years.
In the Cabinet meeting, there have been some amendments made in the Electricity Act 2003. The introduction of the Electricity Bill, 2012 has been approved by the Cabinet. The inspection and testing of electrical equipment in all business establishments and households by authorities has been made mandatory.
A minimal fee will be charged to implement safety provisions to bring in awareness among the public. Detailed rules will be introduced to issue licences to electrical supervisors, wire men and electrical contractors.
