CAG indicts three MLAs of favouring contractors
The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) have indicated large-scale irregularities in implementation of road and drain related projects by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
It indicted three MLAs of Bangalore city – two of the Congress and one BJP – for interfering estimates for road works to favour contractors.
The report states that MLAs of Dasarahalli, Shantinagar and Sarvagnanagar divisions of the BBMP had urged the Palike commissioner to take up road works at a stated amount specified against each work.
Although the BBMP defended their part saying that no tenders were called without preparation of estimates, the CAG refutes the body’s claims and states that performance review of these works revealed that there was no proper need of assessment in the planning process and maintains their charges that the tenders were manipulated.
