Centre approves medical college at Puri
The Union ministry of health and family welfare has approved setting up of a medical college at Puri. Setting up of four medical colleges at Balasore, Bolangir, Baripada and Koraput has already been approved by the government. The state government’s contribution would be 25 per cent and entre would give 75 per cent of the cost. District head quarter hospitals having 200 beds into medical colleges are being upgraded by the centre. The plan is to set up 50 such medical colleges in the country. The state government had requested Centre to establish four medical colleges in Balasore, Bolangir, Koraput and Baripada. However, Union Health minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad was requested by the senior Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra to upgrade the district hospital at Puri to a medical college.
