Chandigarh facing acute water crisis

1 Comment Sub Category:Municipality,Other cities Posted On: Sep 24, 2012

Chandigarh residents are facing acute water supply crunch.

As against a demand of 116 Million Gallons Daily (MGD), the city is presently receiving 90 MGD, which includes 80 MGD from Kajauli water works and another 10 MGD from tube wells.

The local Municipal Corporation would supply additional 3 MGD to Military Engineers Services (MES) in Chandimandir and 6 MGD to Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in Panchkula.

Even out of Kajauli supply, 10 MGD goes to Mohali and another 3 MGD to MES, which means only 66 per cent of the water demand in Chandigarh is met at present.
