Chennai 7 buildings pulled down to make space for Metro
Right in front of the Chennai Railway station, the metro railway has recently started to re-jig the city’s sky line. Poonamallee High Road is located just opposite the Central railway station and this is exactly where the Metro rail has started to acquire and clean land.
In order to make more space for the railway project, the seven storey building is being pulled down by bulldozers and the engineers have also claimed that this one isn’t an easy task at all. In order to prevent the falling of debris, a barricade has been provided for. The plan is to establish a considerable number of buildings one after the other starting from the Buhari Hotel to Hotel Central Tower. However, the famous structure Sir S Ramasami Mudaliar Choultry will not be pulled down according to the CMLR officials.
The process commenced once the Supreme Court gave its allowance in the month of February. Instructions have also been provided by the court that the property should be examined and analysed and the compensation should be fixed. The rates have been fixed and the transactions will be taking place very soon. The Buhari buildings and the rest cannot be controlled for now since the owners have gone to court once again.
One of the officials have also mentioned that nothing can be done about the rest of the lands until the court’s order arrive. On the other hand, the shops and restaurant owners have been resisting the metro rail and the owner has also appealed to the Supreme Court in favour of land possession. This has led to a delay of about 7 months for the metro rail.
