Chennai Building Collapse- The 3 main questions

No Comments Sub Category:Real estate trends,Realty News Posted On: Jul 03, 2014

It was more than a rumble in the Bronx down south, when a 12 storey building “under –construction” named “TRUST HEIGHTS” crumbled like a pack of cards, shattering the sleep of many residents, killing some and injuring many in Porur, Chennai says a source.

Last week as the residents at Porur, Chennai called it a day and were retiring for a snooze, the under-construction 12 storey tower gave way, which now as the rubble clears brings to the minds of many three important questions, especially for homebuyers that invested in the project.

Taking into account the plethora of under-construction projects across the city’s landscape and it’s fringes, multi-storey homes are a norm and more of it has been witnessed over the past decade. Sources say, such follies and collapse of projects on a literal notion is not something new, remembering the collapse of a newly constructed and completed 5 storey building in Goa as the year 2014 began.

The first question that came about was on the quality of the home one agrees to buy, how would the homebuyer check on that. It is a fact that the procedures as laid by the government with regard to testing of soil, quality of materials used and the study of the structure is important before any construction happens, say sources.  Plenty of analysis and data needs to be coagulated to assure homebuyers of safety with their investments and their lives, which was the second question.

Finally, the third question was about the scramble for space, which is why analysis and knowledge of the construction in most cases is put off, but why?
