Chennai: CMDA constitutes 19 special teams to inspect multi-storeyed buildings
As many as 19 special teams have been constituted by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) to carry out an inspection of nearly 330 multi-storeyed buildings in the city.
According to unidentified sources familiar with the move undertaken by the CMDA, each of the 19 special teams will have three officials from different fields. The inspection of the constructions will soon be started by these teams.
The CMDA’s move to constitute special teams for investigation of multi-storeyed buildings comes after some previous reports have revealed that the building collapse at Maulivakkam was largely a result of construction. Moreover, it has also been alleged that the building had come up at an area where there was watershed.
Meanwhile, with the CMDA having set up 19 teams for the inspection of Chennai’s around 330 multi-storeyed structures, realty developers body CREDAI – the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India – has said that a special task force will be volunteered by it, to help the government in the investigation. The special task force will include academicians and professional engineers.
In a statement released on Wednesday, CREDAI said: “The task force will analyse and evaluate the reasons for the mishap and suggest quality and safety guidelines for all members.”
