Chennai Corporation’s garbage penalty receipt lacks details
The authenticity of penalty receipts issued by Chennai corporation against those who dump debris and garbage on the city roads has come under the scanner. The issue has been raised by an RTI activist.
A receipt copy available with this newspaper lacks mandatory details like name and designation of the officer collecting the penalty.
Moreover, the bill, issued under the Madras Corporation Municipal Act and Public Health Act, does not describe the nature of offense or provide the detail of the ward from where the fine was collected, which further puts question mark on whether it reaches the exchequer.
