Chennai Illegal Buildings Case Proved an Eyewash at Madras High Court
The Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam of Madras high court (MHC), who had directed the authorities to file individual affidavits on illegal construction by November 1st, 2011 reported saying that the status report filed recently was nothing but an eyewash in their point of view. The Chennai city civic authorities were blamed for their failure for not tracing even a single unauthorized building and the Madras high court has been questioning the concerned authorities over these issues. Chennai city corporation and Chennai municipal department is now held responsible for not attending mandated law approved by the MHC.
This act seems to be unfortunate for ignoring the court orders. Meanwhile the judges added on saying that nearly 100 unauthorized buildings in existence at T Nagar, Chennai has been filed on illegal constructions. The statistics increases with the other places in the city nearing 1,000 buildings constructed without seeking permission from the municipal authorities and are still standing. However the state government had set up a six-member monitoring committee mandated to examine thoroughly with all the multi-storied commercial complexes and also was given initiative for demolition drive, however issues are left unattended.
