Clearance of projects in Chennai is faster through Green Channel
It is stated by the builders that the delay in getting clearances for projects is the main reason for escalating the cost of apartments in India.
Normally it takes a few months to a couple of years for most projects to get approval.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has introduced the green channel clearance system. The system facilitates speedy approval of projects in Chennai.
In the last one year, 70 apartment projects were cleared by the CMDA under the green channel. According to the municipality guideline any application submitted under the green channel must be cleared within two weeks.
Green channel applications enjoy many privileges. First and foremost, they are given priority and hence jump the waiting list. Inspection of the site by CMDA officials is also done quickly.
But to avail the green channel facility, the construction plot should be part of a CMDA approved layout or Tamil Nadu Housing Board layout, or it should not have been subdivided after 1975. And mulch-storeyed buildings are not covered under the green Channel system.
