CM of Puducherry allocates Rs 1,510 crore for upgrading the infrastructure facilities in the U.T.

Chief Minister of Puducherry (Popularly known as Pondicherry) N Rangasamy discussed in the assembly today the contours of the ‘’housing for economically weaker sections in his union territory (U.T). He declared that under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious ‘ Jandhan Yojana‘ scheme, the Puducherry Government has planned to cover over three lakh homes.

The CM mentioned that in Puducherry as many as 3.02 lakh households will be covered under this scheme by this month. He presented a Rs 6,100 crore tax free budget for the financial year 2014-15 which was accepted with a lot of applause.

Rangasamy announced that the approval of the Standing Committee of the Central Electrical Authority was received for setting up of a 230 KV line from Neyveli Lignite Corporation. He listed out some of the budget proposals which will be executed by his Government in the current year. He also mentioned that this Thermal power station would help the Karaikal region to avail power supply from the Central power generating stations.

He also announced a Rs 1,510 crore project that will include the development of the roads (Estimated at Rs 609 crore across the Union Territory), a Rs 600 crore drinking water scheme, an underground drainage scheme (Estimated at Rs 140 crore) and a storm water discharge and flood control scheme (Estimated at Rs 161 crore). This project is aimed at upgrading the infrastructure facilities of the U.T.
