CM’s advisor stresses on need for water conservation
Bangalore- A Ravindra, the chief advisor of Karnataka Chief Minister, stressed on the need for a water regulatory authority which would fix tariff for water consumption, as there has not been any water tariff revisions made in the city for years.
Athena Infonomics, a research based consultancy firm, and the British High Commission along with many other urban local bodies in the state had organised a workshop on ‘Strengthening Participatory Approaches in Urban Water Supply and Sewerage in Karnataka’.
Speaking at the workshop, Ravindra said that, the major problem in the city are the rates. The amount spent by the Bangalore Water and Sewerage Supply Board (BWSSB) is much more than what it gets as income. And if tariffs are not revised regularly and if it gets increased suddenly, then people may find it very difficult.
He added that it is beneficial to have a water regulatory authority as it will regulate the tariff hikes ensuring that it does not overburden the people.
Conservation of water is very important for the city, as there could be severe shortage of water supply and there may be chaos in the near future. Depending on the Cauvery water forever is not going to solve the problem. So the city has to start conserving water soon which otherwise could lead to a major issue like the garbage problem, said the advisor.
