Concern of Farmers Growing Over the Assigned Lands by the State Government

During a meeting conducted by the Dalit Bahujan Front on ‘Welfare of SC/ST people-new capital region’ the farmers who belong to the SC/ST communities voiced their concern over the fate of lands that were assigned and of those small farmers who are practicing cultivation in the river bed.

There are some serious issues in connection with land ownership and survival of people who belong to the SC/ST communities and this need to be addressed before the State government making next plan and move to the new capital region. All the farmers who attended the meeting which was held on last Sunday joined their voive over this matter.

A lot of farmers in the Mandhadam region are cultivating lands in the river bed and they are not part of any active societies. This fact was revealed by MLA Tadikonda and Tenali Sravan Kumar, who is a special invitee to Cabinet Sub-committee. Both raised their voice to the need to address and earlier settlement of the issue of compensation of these farmers.

They also pointed out the view that there are many youngsters from the Dalit communities who used to work in unorganised sectors and it is a need of the hour to provide them a safe and secure employment. The farmers who were present in the meeting called for equal compensation as of other farmers who own lands, for cultivating on the assigned lands. They even told that they are willing to part their lands, for a secure government job for every family I addition to the land offered to them. The voice of the farmers was led by Puli China Raju, a farmer hailing from Thullur region. A demand was also raised to give a complete waiver of all agricultural loans from them.

The meeting was also attended by the District Collector Kantilal Dande and Melam Bhagya Rao, the State secretary of Dalit Bahujan Front. Representatives of various SC/ST communities were also present.

Mr. Ravela Kishore Babu, the Minister for Social Welfare has pointed that the new capital region is likely to would see a rapid growth from traditional agricultural system to a megapolis with ample opportunities for all. He asked the Dalit representatives to keep changing with the times and go ahead with the new opportunities like for entrepreneurship. A skill development corporation is also likely to be set up in this region.
