Construction of malls to be paused by 2012

No Comments Sub Category:Awareness,Realty News Posted On: Nov 21, 2011

Beyond the year 2012 there won’t be new big malls in Mumbai city. The expansion of huge malls will be paused with the upcoming new construction projects in next one year. The experts feel that the real estate situation is going ironic as the Indian builders are more open to the construction of malls and are concentrating on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The construction of big malls are paving way for the roll back of investments into glitzy shopping complexes, leaving the retailers worried about their expansion plans.

The decision taken by the Indian government is sure to hit the upcoming mall projects like; DLF Mall of India in Noida, Phoenix Market City malls, Dubai-based Lulu’s mall in Kochi, L&T’s Elante Mall in Chandigarh. These malls are expected to open by the end of next three quarters.
Although,in Bangalore, around 22 malls have been put on hold and in Mumbai there are seven new malls expected to come up by 2012 and none after that, the lifestyle retailers have picked up an argument in relevance with the smaller malls transforming into neighbourhood shopping centres where citizens goes for routine needs.
